Being a beginner is an underrated skill
My first drawing class reminded me how uncomfortable, and useful, not knowing can be.

I hid my sketchbook when the teacher came over. Apparently I am old enough to handle a complicated work meeting, but not old enough to feel relaxed about an uneven circle.
Learning something new asks for a different kind of confidence: the confidence to be bad at it for a while.
Instead of comparing my drawing to the person next to me, I started keeping the pages in date order. Small progress is easier to see from a distance.
Permission to learn includes permission to make something unimpressive.
Ten minutes after breakfast has been more useful than waiting for a perfect free evening. What would you like to be a beginner at?
